The WA Internet Association (WAIA) is committed to educating the public on the Internet, and offers many services to the Internet community. Your membership means WAIA initiatives such as free member public meetings, conferences, arbitration, government lobbying and more, can continue.

WAIA is a not-for-profit association, and all work is performed by volunteers - all money raised will be redirected back into offering these services to the membership. WAIA seeks to inform the community of issues relating to the Internet as well as providing a balanced viewpoint.

The money WAIA receives from membership is used to fund public Internet initiatives which include:

  • Regular public meetings with speakers of note. WAIA pays for the venue and equipment hire, and oftens commits to the cost of presenting these speakers.
  • Public education, through holding community education at schools, colleges, and other events such as the internet community hour.
  • Creating opportunities for members to exhibit their goods to the community, such as at Comm-IT 2004 recently.
  • Representing the interests of Internet companies and users to the government, when any policy is being developed relating to the Internet.
  • Maintaining a dispute resolution process for the industry.
  • Providing balanced representation of the Internet community through the media (newspaper reports, radio news and talkback, television interviews, providing columns to newspapers and magazines)
  • Representing the Internet industry on forums.
  • Development of industry tools such as the "code of conduct" and recommended "acceptable use" policies, in order to set high standards for the Internet industry, thus protecting users from poor service, plus setting standards for member companies to strive to.

We do realise members like to receive some direct benefit for their membership and therefore, WAIA members are:

  • Allowed to reproduce the WAIA Logo on their literature and websites, stating that as a member of WAIA, they support the Internet and are actively involved in its promotion and protection (see WAIA Membership Logo Usage Agreement).
  • Be promoted as preferred providers of services. WAIA receives many requests from individuals and companies seeking recommended providers of Internet services. WAIA will always provide a list of WAIA members to these requests, therefore increasing your exposure to these companies.
  • Given free entry to our Public Meetings, which normally attract a cover charge.
  • Given discounts, where possible, to any charged WAIA events, such as conferences.

We are also seeking to arrange relevant discounts with suppliers of Internet services, that can be obtained by WAIA members.

We of course are always looking to increase the attractiveness of membership with WAIA, and are therefore always open to suggestions on how we can improve the benefits members receive from membership. To provide feedback please contact us.
